10 Self-Care Ideas You Can Do at Home

January is already flying by! For some, this month may have felt like a whirlwind with the new year, school starting back for the kids, or maybe work picking back up. It’s hard to believe it’s already almost February! But with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it obviously has me thinking about love! Love for the special people in our lives, our kiddos, but also ourselves! It’s okay to show yourself some love, with all that you do for everyone else.

Self-care doesn’t have to be some crazy extravagant thing. It doesn’t require a $200 spa day or an entire at-home Saturday dedicated to pampering yourself! Self-care can be done in the one free hour you have after the kids are dropped at school. It can even be the quiet thirty minutes you have alone in the morning or at night while everyone is still sleeping. So in the spirit of self-love, today we’re gonna be talking about self-care and ten easy at-home ways, you can give yourself a little TLC!

1.Take a bath!

This one may just seem obvious but it can really do wonders for a tired, stressed out body and mind! Grab some of your favorite bath products like a bubble bath, these bath bombs, or epsom salts. Epsom salts help relax your muscles and soothe inflammation, while a hot bath can help improve circulation in your legs! If you want to make it a little more luxurious, you could grab one of these bath trays to have a candle, a drink, and even a book to read in your bath!

2. Journal for a while!

Journaling has so many benefits and has become a small way for many to unwind, get their thoughts on paper and feel more refreshed and clear headed. Not to mention, there are so many awesome journals out there. If you struggle with your mind feeling like it’s going 100 MPH because you’re a busy mom or have a stressful job, journaling can actually do a world of difference! Just find a blank piece of paper or keep a dedicated journal and use it as a thought dump.

If you’re new to the idea of journaling and have never tried it before, try one of these guided journals! The prompts can give you a bit of structure to form your journal entries around. Even just five minutes a day can make a world of difference! Try this Personal Growth Workbook with fun engaging pages and guided prompts!

3.Take some quiet time for yourself in the morning!

This one can be hard to do, but it’s so worth it. Check out this past blog post where I talk about how important it is in my own morning routine—but I am a BIG advocate for quiet time in the morning! It helps me feel centered and focused on what I need to do for the day. I can take a second to breathe, plan out my day, get some coffee in my system and just have some alone time to charge up before the kids wake up. If I don’t give myself this little bit of time, it can feel like my whole day is thrown off, so this one is super important for me!

4. Read a book you love!

If reading is your thing, then you know this is good self care! There is nothing like snuggling up on the couch or in bed with a blanket and a good book (maybe some tea or coffee too!). Reading can be like a nice little escape that isn’t just mindlessly watching TV or scrolling on Instagram. It’s more of a mindful practice and tends to feel a little more quiet and disconnected than doing anything on your phone. This would also be a good addition to the morning quiet time if you’d like, or you could even be what you do at the end of your night to wind down after putting the kids to bed! Whenever you do it, even reading 10 minutes a day can help you wind down and disconnect from your phone for a bit! Bonus points if you have a good self-development book you’re into!

5.Do a full skin care routine and listen to some calming music!

This one is so fun to me because it’s like the full spa treatment, without the big bucks! Whether it’s buying yourself some sheet masks from Target or Walmart, or using a nice luxurious face mask, this is such a nice self-care moment. I love to do my skin care routine, and also my face shaving/dermaplane routine! That’s right, I think women should shave their face. If you haven’t read that blog post, go do it because it will change your life! It’s so good.

I’ve also loved using ice rollers recently to help with puffiness! Doing a full skin care routine like this helps me feel refreshed and pampered, all from the comfort of my own home! Grab yourself a face mask, a razor, and all your everyday products, and get to treating yourself!

6. Go on a walk and listen to your favorite podcast!

This one is so easy and accessible to do while your kids or at school, or even on your lunch break during the day, if you’re in the office! Even a five-minute walk to get your blood pumping will help wake you up, stimulate your brain, and get your body moving. Pick a good podcast too, and you’re fueling your mind while you move your body!

7. Do a workout or some yoga and listen to your favorite music!

Even if you have just ten minutes a day to spare, getting in some movement can make your body feel so much better! Yoga or just stretching especially can help relieve tension, improve blood flow, and help you get in some good breathing! Plus there are all kinds of super cute yoga/exercise mats you can treat yourself to! Here are some of my favorite workout leggings to help me feel comfortable and supported for workouts! It’s also important to stay hydrated during your workouts—my Stanley cup is my favorite for that!

8 . Meditate!

This one doesn’t have to be necessarily spiritual meditation of any kind, if you don’t want it to be! Meditation can simply look like taking 10 or 15 minutes to sit with your eyes closed and do some breathing exercises! There are all kinds of apps for things like this such as Headspace or Calm, but there are also so many free resources on YouTube and Spotify as well!

9.Give yourself a mini spa day!

Round up all of your favorite skincare products from before, put on a cozy robe, and go all out! This is a great time to do your nails, if you’ve been meaning to do that! Check out this blog post with my favorite at-home manicure for ideas! You can also bring out the heating pad or even a foot bath, if you really want to treat yourself!

10. Watch a movie you love with your favorite snack!

This one is by far probably the most mindless and chill option, so if it’s all you can muster to turn on a movie, lay on the couch, and maybe fall asleep halfway through (oops), that’s OKAY! Sometimes we just need time to relax and wind down. So grab a blanket, pop some popcorn if you want, and put on your favorite movie! There is no shame in having a lazy night-in sometimes.

Whatever you do, take care of yourself! Everyone needs a little TLC!
